Dog Walker [United Kingdom]


 

We are looking for a dog walker to join the team here at Bear Basics Canine Academy!

Bear Basics is a successful canine training business in Wakefield and the surrounding areas. We are looking for a trustworthy, passionate and dedicated individual who has a good understanding of canine behaviour and a natural love for dogs. The candidate will require a reasonable level of fitness and enjoy being outdoors (come rain or shine!).

A 4 week in-person shadowing course will be included where you will come and shadow me at work, this includes walking and training, to gain a full understanding of everything canine. This includes canine body language, how to use various equipment and how to implement aspects of canine training such as how to teach loose lead walking.

Please note: this role will be a self employed role.

Must Haves:

  • A clean, full (manual) UK driving licence.
  • A suitable van or car (4x4, large estate vehicle) that will fit 4 dogs, medium to large sized.
  • A love for the outdoors, in all weathers. You will be expected to walk for up to 5/6 hours a day in various locations.
  • An unconditional love for dogs and be passionate about animal care and wellbeing.
  • Be observant with a good understanding of canine behaviours and body language and be able to react appropriately in a range of situations, often on the spot without much time to think.
  • The ability to work in a team, but also as an individual using initiative and a display of responsibility to confidently communicate with dogs and colleagues. You must enjoy being in your own company as the majority of the day you will be working alone, with just the dogs to communicate with.
  • Be ambitious and takes pride in your work with great attention to detail and is always willing to improve and adapt to the growing needs of the business.
  • A 'can do, will do' attitude, even if the task my seem daunting.
  • Reliable, punctual, hard working and trustworthy.
  • Confident in working with not just dogs, but the general public too.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet and greet new customers and their dogs before their first walk to gain an understanding of the dogs behaviour and owners requirements.
  • Using your own vehicle to collect dogs from customers homes and take on walks. You will be required to pick up, walk and drop off multiple dogs at once.
  • Taking photos and videos of dogs ready to be used on social media platforms.
  • Updating clients on how their dog has gotten on in their walks/feedback regarding behaviour or training.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of your vehicle each day as we maintain a high standard.
  • Confidently provide animal first aid as and when required whilst dogs are in your care.
  • Providing excellent customer service to all clients and customers, greeting owners in a friendly but professional manner all of the time.
  • Answering the phone and dealing with customer enquiries when required.
  • Using the booking software to book clients in for future dog walking sessions.

We currently need a walker for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday but there is opportunity to go full time (5 days) if we find the right person for the job.

Job Type: Part-time
Part-time hours: 10-30 per week

Salary: £11.00-£16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 30 per week
